Skin and hair in the changing seasons

Skin & hair: professional advice for this fall!

The skin is the largest organ in the human body. It protects us from external aggression, stimulates the immune system and metabolic processes, and is our largest sensory organ. Our hair also plays an important role: it protects the scalp from UV rays, has a thermal regulation function and, like the face, helps to build our appearance.

That's why we asked Sebastien Besnier, creator of the prestigious eponymous hair salon in the Bon Marché Rive Gauche department store, to share his tips for a fall full of good hair days! For you, an exchange between professionals and our facialist coaches.

As with skin, do hair needs change in the fall?

S.B.: "Hair needs in the fall are often linked to a release of stress in the summer, which results in increased hair loss. I therefore recommend a higher intake of biotin, zinc, and selenium to encourage the hair growth cycle to restart. But if hair loss persists, it is best to consult a doctor."

What hair care routine do you recommend for this season?

S.B: "My top tip is to take the time to look after your hair, but also your scalp. Why not set up a weekly hair care routine! Plant-based treatments are also a great way to relax: apply sesame or jojoba oil to the scalp and coconut or argan oil to the lengths. Then leave it on under a warm towel for a few minutes. For a truly relaxing experience, add a few drops of lavender or ylang-ylang essential oil.

Hair and skin: same struggle!

The older we get, the more our skin and hair change significantly. They regenerate less effectively, become drier, finer, and more sensitive, and are less able to cope with factors such as stress, UV rays, exhaust fumes, and pollution. The more fragile our skin and hair become in the face of external aggressions, the more important it is to stimulate their ability to protect and "self-repair" themselves.

S.B: "Indeed, throughout the year, hair and scalp are exposed to these external aggressions, in addition to the heat from styling tools (hair dryers, straighteners, etc.), coloring, and highlights...so it's important to moisturize, protect, and repair our hair at the right time. Professionals like us are also here to advise on the right treatments to follow."
